Useful Terms

Please read about these useful terms which are used in Smartsign.

Publisher​

The web interface that you control Smartsign Display Manager with. It's divided in a top menu, a main working area and an action bar at the bottom.

Smartsign Player​

Smartsign Player is installed on a computer with at least one display connected

Screen​

A screen is the area of the player to use. This is often the entire physical display but can be adjusted when the layer is added to a Screen Layout. When having multiple physical display connected to a PC, you should create the same number of screens.

Layer/Channel​

Channels are like TV-channels. You book a schedule on them, and then you can reuse this schedule either in a screen layout or in another booking. When using a channel in a screen layout, all bookings on this channel will affect all screens with that screen layout.

Screen Layout​

A Screen layout consists of a collection of layers/channels that are positioned on a screen. The screen layout also decides the background color of layers and screen.

Physical Display​

A screen and a screen layout together controls what should be displayed on the actual physical display.
As seen in the right image of a display, there can be many different media types playing simultaneously when using a screen layout with multiple layers

Tags/Tag Filters​

Tag is keyword or user defined term assigned to a screen, player, layer and media item. It's a useful way to group related items together. Tag Filters are used to filter the screens based on tags assigned to it.
